Combat Fatigue

It’s no wonder with our busy schedules that fatigue is one of the most common symptoms presented to primary health care providers. While there can be many causes, there are some natural ways to perk up your body’s energy levels that you can easily implement into your daily lifestyle habits.

1) Eat more fruits and veggies. They are alkaline foods that are more oxygenating and less taxing to your organ systems, especially your kidneys. Start to add one serving of each to replace more acidifying foods like chips, candy, pastries and the like that might give you an immediate energy boost, but unlike those processed foods that are devoid of fiber, won’t end up causing you to crash at the other end.

2) Increase your brain power. Include fruits and veggies that are high in Vitamin C and other anti-oxidants that help uplift your mood and lower stress hormone levels. Citrus fruits and peppers are high in natural Vitamin C. I also enjoy a drink called NingXia red that is full of a high ORAC-value puree of NingXia Wolf Berry and other super fruit juices, in addition to 4 citrus oils.
I like to also diffuse some specific Young Living essential oils like Brain Power, Clarity, Peppermint, Lemon, and Frankincense to help perk me up.

3) Check your iron levels. While it is not as common as you would think, iron deficiency anemia is real and can plague some women of child-bearing age. It is a simple blood test usually included in a standard screening blood panel. Increasing iron-rich foods in your diet like beans, dark green leafy veggies, peas, and some dried fruit is helpful. My favorite iron supplement is called Floradix and can be found in health food stores.

4) Get moving! Most of us are too sedentary and don’t get enough exercise. When you get an attack of the yawns, get up and stretch, take a brisk walk, march in place, or something else to get your blood moving! It feels great and gets the oxygen flowing to your brain again!
