CoQ10 and PCOS

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is a condition that affects 1 in 10 woman of childbearing age. It is associated with hormonal imbalances and other metabolic problems such as lack of ovulation, high levels of insulin and testosterone, insulin resistance, high blood lipids, acne, facial, abdominal weight gain, and more. It is often a treatable cause of infertility.

In a new study at the Healthcare Institute for Clinical Nutrition, Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) was found to help balance some of these problems. After 12 weeks, subjects who were given 100 mg of CoQ10 daily had improvement in blood lipid levels, Beta cell function, and insulin levels, resistance, and sensitivity compared to the placebo group.

CoQ10 is a coenzyme manufactured by the body and found in foods such as organ meats, beef, fatty fish, spinach, broccoli, and cauliflower. It is gobbled up quickly if you take statins or blood pressure medications.

Because of our high-stress lives, it is wise to supplement with CoQ10.
